Your donation to Unbound Authors helps amplify the unheard voices of incarcerated writers and supports transformative creativity.
All funds donated provide writing materials in the ten Colorado facilities where we currently offer in-person programming to incarcerated writers.
In lieu of monetary donations, we also gratefully accept material donations through our Amazon wish list.
Why Give Now
Unbound Authors is growing rapidly. Since 2023, we’ve expanded from a single Writers Mentoring Lab to 10 correctional facilities statewide, with two more launching in 2026. In 2025, we are also piloting new publishing programs—including a prison newspaper, a creative arts magazine, and an anthology—approved by the Colorado Department of Corrections.
This growth means our funding needs are also expanding. While we remain volunteer-powered today, sustaining and scaling our programs requires:
*Volunteer travel stipends to reach facilities across the state
*Writing supplies for more than 500 incarcerated writers
*Technology tools to manage correspondence, feedback, and publishing workflows
*Staff capacity to move beyond all-volunteer infrastructure and ensure continuity
Your donation directly supports these priorities and ensures that incarcerated writers in Colorado have access to consistent mentorship, literacy support, and publishing opportunities.

Our work is made possible by generous support from crowdfunding and organizations including Arts in Society and DU Prison Arts Initiative. Join them in sustaining incarcerated writers across Colorado.
